columbus has a name: loved

september 16, 2018

Our vision is to help Columbus find hope, follow Jesus, and give it away.

Our vision is for people.

“Columbus Has A Name” means to be known and loved with direction and purpose.

A belief that you are fully loved comes from a belief that you are fully known.

Of all the gifts listed in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, he says the greatest of them is:

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. – 1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

“Hope is the outgrowth of love and the seedbed of faith.” – Dr. Richard Dobbins

The message for today is:

You can have hope because you are loved.

Our souls long to be loved. Yet often, how we treat one another has left us with the opposite.

Erwin McManus said, “Our souls remember what our history has forgotten.”

So how do we find the hope that we can be loved?

Our ultimate hope is found in the love that was given by God through the work of Jesus.

In the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, and Luke’s accounts are all about WHAT Jesus did.

John gives his account with the theme of WHY Jesus is important.

One verse that is very familiar and sums up why we do what we do as a church is:– familiar…

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 NIV

The word “believe” in John 3:16 means more than to just “acknowledge” something.

It means to fully rest, trust, and put all your weight in something.

The Good News of Jesus is that:

You can have hope because you are loved.

This is hard for us – when the over-information and noise of life tells us to DO more.

Often, our idea of God is to DO something for Him rather than receive something from Him.

BE loved by Jesus. RECEIVE this love. Fully rest in, put your weight in, and BELIEVE in Him.

As your Redeemer, Savior, Lord, Friend, Provider, Way to Life.
