JANUARY 27, 2019

At the beginning of a new year, we often ask questions like: What should I do about me?

But, what if we started asking: What needs to be done around me?

In our community, city, neighborhood, people, world…

The overarching question we are asking is about us making a significant impact in the lives of others :: What breaks your heart?

Last week, we identified that by asking and responding to this question, it will cost you.

Jesus makes a statement “like” this :: Whoever devotes themselves to themselves will have nothing but themselves to show for themselves

The truth is:: If you devote yourself to more than yourself, you will have more than yourself to show for yourself.

This week, we are looking at putting our “devotion in motion”.

“We as Christians, if we are not careful, have a tendency, to substitute DEVOTION for ACTION.” – Andy Stanley

Believers are often content to believe something rather than do something.

Put some motion in your devotion.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge… and you have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor… and give over my body to hardship that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.” – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NIV

Put your devotion in motion.

Our love for God is displayed through our love for others

What are you most grateful for?

God’s sinless perfection or God’s sacrificial intervention?

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us". – Romans 5:8 NIV

What breaks your heart?
